Collaboration Websites

"Two-way communication is an essential component of the learning environment. Collaboration with other students and with the instructor is more possible and easier today than several year ago because of advancements in technology
(Simonson et al., 2012)

While designing a blended/hybrid course, one may want to look at online collaboration websites. These websites allow learners to work together over the Internet. On these websites, learners will be able to work together either in real-time or at different times depending on their schedules or time zones. These websites would work best if you are working with a cooperation with multiple offices in different time zones where the employees need to work together to complete a project.

Below are some examples of Online Collaboration Websites. You can check them out and their help section to see which work best for you, your cooperation, and your learners.

Google Drive

  • Google Drive is free for individuals but cooperations can by licenses so all of their employees are able to access Google Drive. This collaborative website allows individuals to share documents, presents, video chat, and share calendars all in one spot. There are many more things that Google Drive is capable of as well. Check it out and see if it works for you, your cooperation, and your learners.

WikiSpaces

  • Wikispaces allows individuals to collaborate online through creating different pages, uploading documents, and editing online. Cooperations and some other individuals may have to pay to use Wikispaces, so check and make sure it is right for you, your cooperation, and your learners before diving into using it.

DropBox

  • DropBox is a place for people to share documents and presentations with each other. Instead of e-mailing things back and forth you can just put it in someone dropbox and it can be access on any computer. Again, make sure it suits all of your needs before adding it to your blended/hybrid course.
