Teaching Materials

Within a blended course, an instructional designer will want to make sure that there is plenty of material for the students to not only learn from but to also interact with. A blended course can incorporate discussion boards, blogs, wikis, online note-taking and having extra resources for the course available (Simonson et al., 2012). Instructions, tutorials, and helpful hints are below!

Course Management Systems

  • It is important to have a way to distribute materials and have a "meeting place" for your online component to your blended/hybrid course. Here you can find different options available to you. Also, you can go through an Example of an Orientation Course that will give you an idea of how to incorporate your different learning materials and how to get learners ready for your course.

Discussion Boards

  • Discussion boards will be an integral part of your blended/hybrid course. This is where students will communicate with each other and begin or continue discussions outside of the face-to-face component of the course.
Online Collaboration Websites

  • It may be necessary for your learners to collaborate online (especially if during the distance portion of the course, learners are separated geographically). Here you will find different options along with some tutorials.
